Sam (platform)

Sam is costed exactly like Roomie: Upstay pays for every conversation and call, so every switch that spends money is here. The top shows Spent this month, Conversations (with how many were calls), Jobs done, Live at and Brain. Everywhere turns calls on or off for all hotels and picks the model and voice engine. The Sam by hotel table shows each hotel’s state, conversations, jobs done, cost, limit and typical reply time; pick a hotel to see its month and conversations.

Upstay operators who can see the Guests & messages area.

Sam under Digital assistance in the rail, next to Roomie.

  1. Click Stop Sam everywhere at the top of the page and confirm.
  2. Every conversation and call stops within a few seconds at every hotel. Staff see a short note instead of his panel.
  3. Click Start Sam again to undo.
  1. Under Everywhere, switch Calls off to let staff only type, or on to let them call.
  2. Pick the Model and the Voice engine: Streaming (bulbul v4 flash) (the normal choice) or Standard (bulbul v3), the instant rollback.
  3. Click Save. Every hotel follows it within a few seconds.
  1. In Sam by hotel, click Settings on the hotel.
  2. Switch on Live at this hotel. Only the platform turns him on, because activation is spend.
  3. Switch on Look things up only if he should answer and open screens but change nothing.
  4. Enter Monthly limit (₹), or leave it empty for no limit.
  5. Click Save.

The hotel owner keeps their own choices (what Sam does without asking, calls, speaking); saving here never changes them.

  1. Pick the hotel in the table.
  2. Click Read conversations (recorded). Upstay asks you to confirm it is you, and your reading is recorded in Activity.
  • At the limit, calls stop and staff can still type; typing stops at twice the limit. The hotel’s owner gets a bell at 80% of the limit, once a month.
  • Without a Claude key Sam answers with his built-in brain: free, Hindi and English, but simpler.
  • Sam’s cost per hotel is also on Cost per hotel under Money, in its own column next to Roomie.
  • A hotel that shows Sold, not live has Sam on its Features page but not turned on here.
  • “No Claude key is set on the server, so Sam answers with his built-in brain” → Expected without a key. Set the key for the full assistant.
  • “No Sarvam key is set, so staff can type to Sam but not call him.” → Calls need the speech provider configured.
  • “The limit must be a positive number of rupees.” → Enter a whole amount, or leave it empty for no limit.
